Optical Media Board (OMB) Chairman Edu Manzano has resigned from his post to focus on his advocacy against child pornography and eventually prepare for his possible re-entry to politics come 2010 elections.

Deputy presidential spokespersons Lorelei Fajardo and Anthony Golez made the announcement Thursday.

Fajardo said Manzano, whose term initially expired last March 5, 2007, have been acting as OMB head on a hold over capacity until his replacement is named.

She said Manzano submitted his resignation letter to the office of Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita Thursday morning, but she is not yet sure if the President has already accepted it.

Golez said Malacanang is already “deliberating on his replacement.”

“My only knowledge about Mr. Manzano’s letter is he must attend to personal tasks that include among others his campaign against child pornography and he is also considering other avenues of public service, so that is the main reason why he is resigning,” he added.

Manzano, who currently hosts a game show program and a known product endorser, was into acting before he entered politics and served as vice mayor of Makati City in 1998. He returned to the entertainment industry after his term ended.

Reports said he is considering running for senator in 2010.

Manzano’s resignation was made about a week after Socio-Planning secretary Ralph Recto resigned from the administration to prepare for his plans to run for senator in 2010.

Another Cabinet member who is planning to run in 2010 is Golez who is eyeing a congressional seat in Bacolod.

“These are plans like what (Budget) Secretary (Rolando) Andaya said, all these things are personal plans, hopefully if God willing to push through, will push through,” Golez said.

He said he already took his oath as member of the Nationalist People Coalition (NPC).

Asked why he joined NPC instead of the Lakas-Kampi Christian Muslim Democrats, Golez said his party is still a member of the administration coalition and there are also several Cabinet members who are currently affiliated with the party like Tourism Secretary Ace Durano and Education Secretary Jesli Lapus.

Andaya, for his part, said he is still thinking if he would run for congressman of Camarines Sur, a post he held before joining the Arroyo Cabinet and is currently occupied by presidential son Representative Diosdado Ignacio Jose Maria Arroyo.

He denied an “agreement” was made between him and Representative Arroyo, but teased that he is considering joining the entertainment industry if he is given a “love story” for a film instead of a horror film.

Andaya refused to comment on reports that the proposal in the Senate to split Camarines Sur to create another congressional district for him, stressing it is a Senate matter that is up for the senators to decide.

Chin Chin Gutierrez is excited about her new role in ‘Dahil May Isang Ikaw’

Chin Chin Gutierrez, who made an impression in Maging Sino Ka Man, is looking forward to how audiences will react to her ‘Dahil May Isang Ikaw’ character. “It’s something to be proud of once again, a new level, with so many dimensions of each character. It’s really a journey of love especaially for my character Patricia, an heiress of her rich father’s enterprise. She never seems to be fulfilled enough when it comes to her yearnings, wanting to be loved and love someone.”

Chin Chin also pointed out the differences between Doña Corazon (her character in Maging Sino Ka Man) and Patricia. “Every project is different to begin with. In the last soap, in terms of the spine of my character, Doña Corazon is more intellectual while Patricia is emotional.”

Her role in Dahil May Isang Ikaw will be part of a love triangle with Lorna Tolentino’s and Gabby Concepcion’s characters. “The love triangle is emphasized but it comes in a really natural way. It is not main focus, because of the circumstances of their past situations and then how they are interwoven again together in the present. What makes it interesting and terrifying is how each character responds to the need to love and be loved as well as knowing what is good and what is wrong.”

Moreover, she said she loves the challenge presented by Dahil May Isang Ikaw. She explained that characters nowadays don’t come in black and white. “Everybody knows how soaps are developed in the early years and I’m proud to say that we are finally fulfilling the hunger for value. And we can see that our audience is very much in tune with these new developments and they actually expect deeper experience of the story. Formula stuff doesn’t work anymore and we can see that also in May Bukas Pa and as well as the other shows of ABS-CBN.”

As for romance, Chin Chin revealed that she is committed to a relationship that is quite different from other people’s. “Well, it’s really such a hectic dynamic schedule, doing a lot of taping and environmental works. This means like going all around the country, to share about ecological awareness towards ecological lifestyle and sustainability. Cause if we really take care of the earth it will sustain us,” Chin Chin explained. “My love life is really evolving around nature, it’s not the road traveled by most. I didn’t choose it but I chose to follow it when it arrived.

Chin Chin set up the advocacy group Alaga Lahat ten years ago. One of their ongoing activities is the Zero Waste Management in different barangays and parishes. “Alaga Lahat is a holistic way of taking care of the environment. It’s not just about the trees and the animals but also us and our communities. There’s our relationship with God to the nature and to the people. That’s the heart and soul of environmental work for me and my other group mates. We give a spiritual approach to it.”

Jake Cuenca

Jake Cuenca also wants to do indie films, just like Coco Martin.

With Tayong Dalawa nearing its conclusion, Jake promises fans that the best is yet to come. it will be a big, big ending. “As an actor, I always give my best. I make it to a point that whether it’s a big scene, it’s a big role, or it’s a small role, it does not mattr to me. I just give my best and I act like there’s no tomorrow.”

The actor said that he hardly has a break nowadays because of his hectic taping schedules, but he does not feel tired at all. “I love my work. This is my passion, this is what I believe that I am destined to do. I pray everyday and I wish people would want to keep me here so I can do this for a long, long time.” And even if he hadn’t made it in the biz, Jake still sees himself devoting his time to acting. “Most likely I’d still be acting in theater or indie films. I will act in indie movies or I will teach acting in children that’s how much I love to act.”

Jake said that he definitely wants to do indie films in the future. “Cause of course due to time constraints I can’t accommodate it yet. I am a big fan of the indie industry and that’s something I really plan to do. Maybe next year.”

Jake has received a lot of indie project offers, but he said he wants to work with director Brilliante Mendoza first. “Yeah, I have been offered some but I really want to do it with Direk Brilliante because I am really impressed with all his movies, especially the Kinatay. I watched it and wow! I’m so amazed with Coco. I was star struck on him. He’s very good.”

Luis Manzano

Luis Manzano

Eventhough showbiz is abuzz with rumors of his recent breakup with Angel Locsin, Luis Manzano was firm on his deision to keep this part of his personal life private for now.

When asked whether or not they were still together, he insisted that he doesn’t need to give all the details of whatever difficulty that they are going through as a couple. “I don’t want to give you false answers. I’d tell you straight up that I don’t want to talk about whatever Angel and I are going through. So instead, I’m gonna beat it around the bush, I’d tell everyone right now I’d rather talk about the movie.”

A lot of people noticed the coldness between the two when Angel did a production number on ASAP ’09 last Sunday and Luis did not go to her dressing room even once. Though they both refused to elaborate on the issue when they were separately interviewed, Luis claimed that it wasn’t really a conscious effort for both of them. “We have no decision not to talk about it. Maybe because we weren’t a love team, we made a way though it can be said that we’re public property, we can still made a way to separate things that we didn’t need to talk in public,” he explained.

There were also a lot of speculations about when they started having problems because the couple didn’t give any indication of aby trouble during their previous appearances. But Luis hinted that their rift was partly the reason why Angel wasn’t able to host the fourth episode of the five-part TV special of his mom Vilma Santos, Vilma: A Woman For All Seasons, as originally planned.

But then he was also quick to say that Angel did not turn down the job out of spite. “But I hope we shouldn’t just jump into conclusions. Let us don’t judge her why she doesn’t make it. I am sure there’s really something behind it. She is not the type that wouldn’t go on the taping without any reason. We all know Angel as a very, very professional artist. She’s not that type.”

The two of them are trying to work things out and Luis promised to talk about it when he and Angel are finally past the storm. “That’s what happen. The people gave us a leeway and after a while we came out, we became very, very comfortable talking about our relationship. So hopefully it’s one phase that after a few days, after a week we can talk it out. But maybe in the meantime it’s best to leave first what’s being talk about now,” he reiterated.

He did clarify that there was no third party involved in his rift with Angel. He also denied reports linking him to Maricar Reyes and his best friend Anne Curtis who supposedly caused their breakup. “You know I’ve been hearing the weirdest stories. Everyone knows what’s my realtionship with Anne. I don’t think I need to elaborate on that.  Yes (I know Maricar) because she is suppose to be my love team in Flash Bomba. But we’re not close. There never was, never is a third party involved.  The easiest thing to do in life is to judge other people. I can say mindless judging to that.”

Wowowee host Willie Revillame is once again in the headlines of various publications and internet sites regarding his statement during a live Wowowee telecast where he asked the live feed of Cory Aquino’s cortege be removed from the screen.

During the show’s Willie of Fortune segment, Willie said: “It’s not good for us to have fun here while the whole country grieves. I cannot make people laugh at the same time that this part of the funeral of our former president is being shown.”

When Willie’s reaction found its way to YouTube, many have seen this as brash and it was met with a huge wave of negative reactions. It sprouted already numerous online petitions to have the host suspended or remove from his post on the number one noon time show in the country.

The following day, he explained: “I felt that it wasn’t good to show it whlie were having fun. Don’t be angry at me.” He said he was willing to give way to the airing of the TV special, but thathis bosses instructed him to do the show live.

The host was not present last Saturday and this automatically made people ask what happened to Willie. According to Bong Osorio, Head of ABS-CBN’s Corporate Communications, Willie himself texted him and said that he is on indefinite leave effective last Saturday. Mariel Rodriguez, one of Willie’s co-hosts on Wowowee, also mentioned on the show yesterday that Willie is currently resting.

On MTRCB and KBP calim that Willie violated Presidential Decree of 1986 Section 3C, saying that they can take action on any program on TV that will not reflect good alues and show anything injrious to the State, the Republic of the Philippines and its people. ABS-CBN has already received the notice on the said matter and will heave only five days to respond to this. MTRCB Chairwoman Consoliza Laguardia and KBP Vice Chairman Jun Nicadao says that the station will receive fair treatment in the hearing of this issue.

On the other hand. Sen. Nonoy Aquino in an interview said that he would rather not make a igdeal out of the issue. “I’ll take what he said at face value and he hadn’t brought any insult to our family.”

Dennis Trillo

Dennis Trillo

On the solo presscon of Regal Entertainment for Dennis Trillo, related on the horror film with Marian Rivera which is Tarot, he was asked about his being single again.

“Happy, my time is mine,” Dennis said smiling. “I’m alone in my condominium unit. I have no maid, I’m the one cleaning my house. I don’t know how to cook. If I’m in the house, I just order for delivery.

He is also the one preparing sandwich for his breakfast if he’s a bit late. “I’m not worrying about my laundry. Coz there’s a laundry shop below the condominium. They just pick-up my laundry and deliver it to me after.”

But what if he’s daughter Calix Andreas on Carlene Aguilar is sleeping with him?

“We go home to our house at Marikina for me to have a help in taking care of Calix. Coz she’s now more active,” explained the actor.

AFRAID OF... girls or sghosts?

“Its good to look at girls, ghosts are scarry,” he laughingly answered. “And because I’m afraid of ghosts, no one had showed up to me.”

Dennis also had no more problems with his ex-girlfriends so he has nothing to be afraid of them. He also doesn’t want to think of negative things because things are going better in his life now.

Piolo Pascual

Piolo Pascual

Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin have allegedly broken up. Rumors of a third party have surfaced though both stars have yet to confirm or deny such reports. During an interview last August 10, Luis gave no indication of such a split and said except for the fact that their respective busy schedules prevent them from seeing each other that their relationship was okay. Angel gave a similar statement during the last taping day of Only You at Parks and Wildlife last August 21.

The issue came up during the press conference of Piolo Pascual for Kimmy Dora: Kambal Sa Kiyeme at Max’s Restaurant last August 20. As Angel’s former leading man and good friend, the entertainment press asked him if he knew anything about it, but he was equally uncertain about what really happened between her and Luis.

“I also just read it. I don’t know if its true but if ever its true, it would be so sad coz they’ve been together for so long. Before Angel transfer to ABS, they’re already on. Its sad coz they’re both my friends. If it could be for the good of both of them maybe it would be nice. But if its not, I would be happy cause they’ve already had an emotional investment. So I really hope its not over yet,” he commented.

Piolo hasn’t talked to either Luis or Angel yet but he’ll probably know the real deal when he finally sees the former on ASAP this Sunday. “Angel and I haven’t talk yet. I saw her a couple of days ago after she watched the concert of Lady Gaga. She seemed okay. I think their break-up is just recent but just the same, I hope they would be okay again. I’m gonna be seeing Luis this Sunday on ASAP so I’ll ask him about it,” he added.

Sandara Park: “I will come back to Manila with 2NE1″

Sandara Park

Sandara Park

The former teen star says she is excited to bring her groupmates from 2NE1 to the Philippines.

Sandara Park could not believe the warm welcome she received during her three-day vacation in Manila last week. She was also surprised to hear even men singing their second single, “I Don’t Care” on the street when they saw her.

“It’s really shocking. I haven’t think that we’re already famous here,” she said with a shy smile.

2NE1 has been getting a lot of attention in the country because of people’s renewed interest in the Pambansang Krung-krung ng Pilipinas’ career abroad. Their song “Fire” has climbed to the top of local hit charts on music channels and various radio stations. Sandara was pleased to say that she and her group will be returning to the country soon to do some shows.

“Hopefully, I could come back here with them. I hope that my wish would come true of having a concert in Araneta (Coliseum)!” she said with a laugh.

Eventhough Sandara mentioned that they also have plans to conquer Japan like Big Bang, their group’s male counterpart in Korea, she has big hopes that they would also be doing rounds of other Asian countries. She also said that fans have a lot to look forward to from 2NE1 including clothing endorsements, concerts, and their full album. Sandara also said that she’s also open to doing acting again, like her stint on Return of Iljimae but right now, her priority is her group 2NE1. But wh knows, right? Just let’s see,” Sandara added.

And when asked about the three other members of 2NE1—CL, Minzy, and Bom—Sandara has only praises for them. Living with the three girls in one apartment for more than a month now, Dara (as she is now called in Korea) said that they give each other encouragement, something that is really important during this period in their careers. She describes CL as a true friend and their leader who sometimes acts more mature than her even though she’s older. Bom, on the other hand, is really serious about singing and healthy stuff. As for Minzy, Sandara described her as the best dancer in the group. And as the youngest member, Minzy often emphasizes that she doesn’t want to be treated like a kid but wants to be on equal footing with the rest of 2NE1.
