Erap Estrada and Ai-Ai de las Alas

Comedy Queen Ai-Ai de las Alas and former president Joseph Estrada enjoy working together, just as seen in the cast pictorial of Ang Tanging Pamilya. The two even shocked and entertained those present with their naughty banter; but the former president remained a perfect gentleman all throughout the shoot.

“Since then we’re already sweet to each other. Then I am the one who’s always sweet to him. We’re close. Then I really call him ,’Papa,’” Ai-Ai said in an interview.

When she was asked if they have already shot their much-talked about kissing scene, the comedienne explained that she’s still waiting for her ka-love team’s final decision. “I really want it to be resumed. Of course no, it would be a classic kiss. I would be kissing with President Erap. Isn’t it classic? Even in my second life I wouldn’t experince it. Of course I would really grab the opportunity. He has no choice,” she happily remarked.

The Comedy Queen was also flattered when the 72-year-old actor told the media that he is fortunate to be able to work with an acclaimed comedienne in his comeback movie.

And as the movie’s opening date nears, the Box Office Comedy Queen can’t help but feel excited about how fans will take to her latest offering, especially those who have seen all the of the Ang Tanging Ina movies. “Ang Tanging Pamilya contains tanging ama, anak at biyenan. We’re complete here. For the first time I have an alive husband here. Not just in picture. And of course they should wait my scenes with Mommy Dionisia (Pacquiao). She’s naturally funny and I’ve seen that eventhough she’s the mother of a world-renowned boxing champ, she’s a very simple woman and mother. And super, she has armies,” she revealed.

Will Ang Tanging Pamilya surpass her previous box office hits? “I think, yes. And I’m claiming it,” Ai-Ai confidently replied.

Former president and film icon Joseph “Erap” Estrada is set to conquer the silver screen once again, this time with Comedy Queen Ai-Ai de las Alas in Star Cinema’s next offering Ang Tanging Pamilya. The former leader of the country expressed how happy he is to be working with the top-notch comedienne.

“I call her Mams, hahaha! We’re very close. Its a big thing for me to team-up with the number one Comedy Queen of our generation. Ai-Ai is very nice. She’s a wonderful woman to work with. Very professional, no pretensions, just like in showbiz right now, not plastic.”

Erap also said that Ang Tanging Pamilya, his first film in more than 20 years, is their treat for all the victims of the recent Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. He hopes that by watching this family comedy, those who lost so much because of the calamity can still have a good time. “I hope this would make our fellowmen happy who are sad right now because of the calamity that happened. We have a very hard living right now, but I hope that once you’ve watched our movie, you’ll forget all your problems even just for a while.”

A renowned film actor-producer since the ‘50s, Erap was elected to the highest seat in the Philippine government in 1998, which people thought signified his retirement from showbiz.

Although he confessed he enjoyed shooting Ang Tanging Pamilya, Erap would rather not commit to the idea that his movie comeback is just the beginning. “Well I cannot promise anything. But if I have time then why not. Most especially right now because of typhoon Ondoy we have many fellowmen who’s suffering. Anything I can do to help or simply make them happy I would whole-heartedly do it.”

Thus, the 72-year-old actor admitted that although he has enjoyed a successful career that has spanned four decades, being in public service is still what gives him the ultimate fulfillment. “In showbiz I enjoyed popularity, awards, and the fee of course. But in public service you’re the one who’s giving to other people. They are the one you’re spending time with. That’s what money can’t buy.”

Actress-model Maja Salvador, who turned 21 last October 5, considered the chance to work with Kim Bum a great birthday treat. She added that she was flattered by the Korean actor’s compliments when they shot a TV commercial together (TVC) for a soft drink endorsement.

“I’m feeling lucky because Kim Bum went here for us to make a TVC. I know that many girls would like to be on my place but for now he’s mine. Take it as a birthday gift for me,” she joked.

Maja recalled that Kim Bum made her smile in spite of her exhaustion from an all-day shoot. Maja’s call time was 5 am while Kim Bum’s was 3 pm. When Kim Bum arrived in the afternoon, he asked Maja if she was already tired. “I said, ‘yes’ coz I started taping 5 am. Then he said (Kim Bum), ‘But you’re still maganda,’” beamed Maja. Kim Bum’s translator also revealed during an October 3 press conference that the commercial’s director was very vocal about Maja and Kim Bum’s chemistry extending off the set because they got along really well during their breaks.

Maja confessed that she found the Korean actor very handsome and charming. “I super love it when he’s smiling,” she said. “Since I’m always shooting at 5 am, when he hasn’t arrived yet and its so hot, I’m always drinking. Whenever he arrived at the set I don’t need to drink, I would be okay  instantly. Just a smile from him.”

Although they are both single, Maja said that she is not expecting that her friendship with Kim Bum to turn into something romantic. “’What’s with me and Kim Bum is so funny that we became friends,” she said. “For me, its already okay being friends with him coz its a seldom chance to be with a handsome actor like Kim Bum.”

Korean actor Kim Bum recently visited Philippines to shoot a commercial and had a two-part with Ruffa Gutierrez for Ruffa and Ai before he left on October 3. The Korean star seemed a bit shy every time Ruffa would tell him how popular he is with Filipinos after watching him in Boys Over Flowers. Previous reports that claim he finds Filipinas attractive and his admission that he doesn’t have a girlfriend sent the audience into squeals and kilig overdrive.

Since Kapamilya Sandara Park is now a well-known singer in Korea, Kim mentioned through his interpreter that it would be nice to work with her someday so he could find out more about Philippines and its people. “Unfortunately he hasn’t seen or met her yet. If ever he gets the chance to meet her, then he’d like to ask more questions about the Philippines because he has such a good impression of the country,” he said thru his interpreter.

Kim has plans of coming back to promote his new soap, Dream, where he plays a rebellious teenager who later trains to become a boxing champ, when it airs on ABS-CBN. “When choosing his projects, he’s not necessarily going after a certain role as long he can be one person, but with two different personalities. Just like in Boys Over Flowers, he was supposed to be a playboy but it turns out that he’s just trying to cover up his broken heart inside,” said his interpreter.

Dream had just finished airing in Korea before he came here to the Philippines last week. But even though he was exhausted from all his work commitments, he was thankful that he was able to make the trip if only to experience the Filipinos’ hospitality. “The best thing he loves about it is having new friendships. Although it’s been raining, everyone has welcomed him with a full heart and he’s very grateful for that. Since his schedule is really hectic, he hopes that he would have more time to meet the people next time.”

Sam Milby

Singer-actor Sam Milby was on his way to fetch Anne Curtis when his van was suddenly hit by a car while he was driving along Libis, Quezon City last Saturday, October 4. At the time of the accident, Sam was just minding a dump truck that was trying to cut across his lane when his van was hit from behind, causing it to skid and topple on its left side.

“I’m on the far left lane then one dump truck on my right wants to overtake. I’m just on the left lane, I didn’t swerve, I didn’t brake, I was just straightly driving. I can’t see the car on my back because I’m focused on the road in front. Then my van was hardly hit on the back. My car suddenly fall on the side then slided on the driver side. My van was hit on the back by another car,” he recounted to Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN).

The crash damaged his brand new Grandia which he had just recently showed to SNN. But more than the cost and the hassle of having it overhauled, the actor was thankful because he wasn’t. “My car’s body was very damaged kasi when it slided, whole left side was damaged and the hit on the back. When it all comes down to it, what’s important is I’m safe. It’s just a car.”

As of press time, Sam still doesn’t know if he was going to file charges against the driver who hit his car. “I’m still going to wait for my lawyer to let me know [what legal steps should I take]. Apparently, the driver didn’t show up yesterday [for a meeting]. I guess I’ll be waiting for their word or anything. I still haven’t talked to him. But there’s still one driver involved. I think she went to the hospital because of a neck injury,” Sam added.

Sam immediately called Anne after what happened because they were supposed to go to Pampanga for her little sister’s first birthday. The two have been working on rebuilding their friendship ever since they attended the Star Magic Ball together last August. But the real status of their relationship is still under wraps as even Kris Aquino refused to comment on why they were going to Anne’s family affair together. “You know let’s respect their privacy. You and I promised that whatever they have we’ll keep quiet, right? It’s none of our business,” she briefly told SNN co-host Boy Abunda.

Shaina Magdayao

Shaina Magdayao

Young star Shaina Magdayao is in no rush to be given a solo project and does not want to feel pressured that her contemporaries like Maja Salvador and Erich Gonzales already have their own launching teleserye. “Of course I’m hoping, but there’s no small or big role,” she explains. “As long as I believe on the project and on the character I portray, I’m really on the go. There’s no problem with it as long as I’ll love my character, I would really go for it.”

The Kambal sa Uma star said that she just feels fortunate that she continuously gets good projects. “More than being choosy, maybe I should just be thankful that I’ve been in the business for a long time and I always have projects.” As a matter of fact, Shaina is already working on her next teleserye, the Pinoy adaptation of the Mexicanovela Rubi, with Angelica Panganiban and Jake Cuenca.

She also stressed that she would rather work her way up slowly rather than be an overnight success. “Coz when you’re up there, there is no [other] way but down. It’s also scary. You have to make the right choices, It would be a great pressure. So right now, I’m just slowly but surely,” she shared.

Since Maja and Erich have taken on sexier images, Shaina admitted that while she is open to the possibility of taking the same path, she won’t do so until the right project comes along. “I’m game with anything but right now, give them the spotlight. It’s their time…. So if ever there are projects—and I’m very thankful that there are—maybe I would just do my best. But the competition it’s for others.”

The younger sister of Vina Morales shared that she has never been the competitive type, for fear that it might only bring out the worst in her. “I compete with myself. That’s what I’m always saying because if you’ll think about it, you’re insecurities would really take over you. And it’s not healthy. It won’t help you at all. It will only make you focus on the negative,” she says.

Coco Martin

Coco Martin

Indie actor Coco Martin may have finally gotten his wish to penetrate TV mainstream, but clarified that he will remain an indie actor. Even with a busy schedule due to upcoming TV projects, Coco said that he will find time for an indie project if he is offered a good role.

“If ever there’s a good project and I know that my co-actors are good, I’ll never say no to it. As long as I can do it and I can insert it to my schedules, I’ll be glad to do it,” he said.

Coco justified that while mainstream projects give him the chance to save up and enjoy popularity, acting in indie films gives him fulfillment as an actor. “In other words you’re not making it for the sake of making money, you’re doing it because you love this work and you respect you’re profession,” he shared.

The actor also pointed out that if it were not for his being an indie actor, his acting skills may not have been noticed and he may not have penetrated the mainstream at all.

Coco shared that his work an actor in TV and in indie films allows him versatility as a performer, something which he considers his advantage over other actors. While he might have a younger audience for his TV projects, Coco projects a bolder image in indie films. “For me, TV and movie has different audience , most especially on indie,” he justified. “It’s like I don’t want to set limitations. Coz whenever I think of it I am the one being affected as an actor. My work will change and would be very affected.”

After being part of the successful teleserye Tayong Dalawa, Coco is busy taping for Agimat: Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla, reprising the role of Tonyong Bayawak and for Nagsimula sa Puso with Maja Salvador.

Ikaw Sana Casts: Pauleen Luna, Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado

During the press launch of the newest prime time show of GMA,  Ikaw Sana, the event served as a reunion because except of the comeback love team of Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado , after the very successful Dramarama series- Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?, this is also Pauleen Luna’s reunion with Mark and Jen, and of course Direk Joel Lamangan, after the critically-acclaimed movie Blue Moon.

Direk Joel made known his feelings of this reunion even before the presscon begun.

“Excited, because now I would be directing one of the recently most bankable love teams — Jennylyn and Mark Herras. I’ve been with them on Paano Ba Ang Mangarap? in a Dramarama. And this time we’ll be working on a Telebabad. I’m excited because this is challenging. But along with the show’s staff and crew I can really say this would be a great success. Actually, this is sort of a reunion on the four of us Jennylyn, Pauleen and Mark, coz we’ve already been together in a movie I’ve made for the film festival,  Blue Moon,” statement of the multi-awarded director.

A tried and tested formula and one of the strongest love team in the country, Ikaw Sana will no doubt bring us another interesting story that will entertain our Telebabad nights.
